Legal and Ethical considerations

  • Legal Consideration

It is essential that script writers take into legal consideration when writing their script before it actual goes into being made into a film. This is to avoid variety of different problems when it gets shown to the public.

Copyright

Copyright is when no one can copy your work. It protects your work from being stolen by others and automatic is free to use only in the UK. They can protect their work by ensuring that they have the (c) symbol with their name on every page and at the front of the script also showing when the script was created. This helps to prevent your work from being stolen.

Watershed

Watershed is when a TV program is not suitable for children at a certain time. It starts at 9 am which means that content shows violence, graphic imagery, swearing and other things inappropriate for children to view. Watershed ensures that children are protected from unsuitable content by reminding script writers or broadcasters to make their material suitable for young audiences.

Libel

Libel is when something is published to ruin or damage a person's reputation in a negative way. This can get you sued or even in serious trouble.

Blasphemy

Blasphemy is when you insult and offend God. This gets the thing that the person that made banned in certain countries.

Obscenity Law

This is when a material can inspire threatening behavior and makes it forbidden to be released to the public. It mainly depends on the country that the country.

  • Ethical Considerations

Censorship

For Censorship in the UK, it is managed by British Board of Film Classification. They are responsible for managing what film can be shown to an audience. When this happens, they give a certificate which allows them to release the finished film. If the film is offensive and very violent, they will not give a certificate. This means that the film company need to change some of the scenes of the film.

Offensive Content

This when content offends the viewer that is watching the film. This is because of the extreme violence and other things it may have included in it.

Decency

Decency is when you show something which maybe indecent often linked to sexual acts. This offends some of the viewers that are watching it.

Health and Safety consideration

It is essential that my production crew take into consideration the health and safety risks when creating a film. If my team does not follow the risks, it can result in injuries and equipment damage, which will negatively affect the costs of the production.

Here is a table of things that my Production Crew Must Consider:

Location Reece

Before my film can be made, one of my members from the production crew must first plan out the location of where the are going to film. This helps us to be organized and lets us decide which order to record the raw footage of each scene from the script.

Sourcing Finance/Personnel/resources

Since my production team will not be funding the film, I will need to look for other sources to fund my film from for my production team to have enough money to do so. For my film to get financed, there are three main things that I have thought of that allow my film to get financed and funded. The first thing is something called crowd funding. In order to get crowd funded, my production team will need to publish a pitch/trailer, which will give people an insight of the film through the trailer an idea of if your film is worth investing in or donating to.

The second way I have thought of getting funded is through Pre-sales. Pre-sales allow film makers to receive income even though the film has not yet been created. It works by selling distribution rights before the film can be made.

A final way I have thought of getting the film funded is through grants which can come from the government or from non-profit organizations. The only issue is that getting funded through the government will require you to enter through a lottery-based competition to get the actual fund. The positive thing is that there are grants for first-time film makers and every stage of the film making process.

Overall, I have decided to get funded through crowdfunding as it will allow my film to get noticed by the public and they will determine if the film will be good and if it will be worth donating to. Creating a great trailer will bring investors into the film generating enough money to reach the film that I will be making great.
